NHSRCL Signs Bullet Train Maintenance Machinery Contract

INDIA: NHSRCL has signed a contract with the KCS-AVADH Consortium for specialized rolling stock maintenance machinery for the 508 km Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project as its depot infrastructure develops.

The agreement covers design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning and deployment of the machinery, according to the supplied contract announcement. It is a procurement milestone: the announcement does not say the equipment has already been delivered or commissioned, and it does not identify the individual machine types included in the KCS-AVADH package.

What the maintenance machinery is designed to support?

NHSRCL’s 2026 depot procurement notices show the type of specialized equipment being prepared for the project. They include a driving-car maintenance platform rated at a minimum 700 kg and an electrically powered mobile hydraulic lifting platform with a 6-tonne pallet capacity. Those tenders are separate from the KCS-AVADH announcement, so they should not be treated as a definitive equipment list for the new contract.

The project company has separately described rolling stock maintenance facilities that include inspection bays, trainset washing equipment, wheel re-profiling capability and other depot machinery. These examples show that the maintenance system will require equipment for inspection, lifting, wheel work, cleaning and component servicing, while the exact machine list in the KCS-AVADH contract remains unspecified in the supplied announcement.

Three depots will divide maintenance functions

NHSRCL says the corridor will use three rolling stock depots: Sabarmati and Surat in Gujarat, and Thane in Maharashtra. Thane and Surat are planned for daily inspections, regular inspections and unscheduled maintenance.

Sabarmati is intended to handle those functions as well as bogie and general overhauling, giving it a broader heavy-maintenance role within the three-depot system.

The supplied KCS-AVADH announcement does not specify which depot will receive the contracted machinery. The confirmed change is therefore the signing of the machinery contract itself, with design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning and deployment still forming part of the agreed scope rather than completed work.
