Vadodara Bullet Train Station Advances Above Rail Lines

INDIA: Vadodara bullet train station has completed slab casting at its concourse, platform and track levels as steel structural work advances above the existing railway complex.

Construction moves into the steel phase

The latest milestone shifts the Vadodara station from major slab casting toward its next structural phase. Steel fabrication and erection for the station superstructure are now underway, while the elevated high-speed facility continues to be built within the operating environment of Vadodara Junction.

That setting is central to the project. Unlike a greenfield station, the high-speed structure is being delivered above existing railway premises, requiring phased construction and coordination with conventional train operations. The current update says this approach is intended to minimise disruption while work proceeds around the established station.

The new milestone also marks progress beyond the position reported by NHSRCL in March 2026, when concourse and track-level slab casting had been completed but platform-level casting was still in progress and structural steel erection had started.

Why Vadodara required a redesigned railway interface?

The station layout reflects earlier efforts to reduce the engineering risks of building around live railway infrastructure. In NHSRCL’s 2021 account of the Vadodara alignment redesign, the original concept would have crossed about 13 railway lines near the yard and placed the high-speed station above Platform 6 on the western side.

NHSRCL said that scheme would have made construction and the protection of running trains difficult. The revised alignment shifted the station to the eastern side near Platform 7 and moved the railway crossing farther beyond the yard, where the high-speed alignment could cross Indian Railways tracks with a 40-metre span on portal piers instead of the much larger proposed crossing arrangement.

The integration objective remained unchanged. When the C-5 civil package was contracted in 2022, NHSRCL said the Vadodara HSR station was planned above the existing Platform 7 to support easier transfers between high-speed services and Indian Railways.

Vadodara is therefore progressing as both a high-speed rail construction site and a complex interface with an existing junction. The station is not complete: the current milestone confirms finished slab casting at the three principal levels, with steel fabrication and erection still in progress.
