The train will start from Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai and run at speeds of up to 320 km/h, offering a game-changing alternative to air and road travel.
At a public event in Bhavnagar, the minister also flagged off the Ayodhya Express, Rewa-Pune Express, and Jabalpur-Raipur Express, highlighting the government’s commitment to expanding connectivity.
He emphasized the bullet train’s rapid progress and reiterated the Modi administration’s goal to modernize India’s transportation network.
Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train part of wider railway overhaul
Gujarat will see additional developments, including a new Porbandar–Rajkot train, a coach maintenance facility in Ranavav worth approximately $16.2 million, and a container terminal at Bhavnagar’s upcoming port.
Two Gati Shakti cargo terminals and a railway flyover in Porbandar are also planned.
In Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, regional projects are moving quickly thanks to “double-engine” government backing.
Across the country, over 34,000 km of new railway tracks have been laid in the past 11 years, equal to roughly 12 km per day.
Vaishnaw also highlighted the redevelopment of 1,300 stations across India—an effort that continues while maintaining active train services.
He contrasted this with Western nations, which often shut down stations entirely during reconstruction.
The minister spotlighted new-generation trains like the Vande Bharat Express, Amrit Bharat Express, and Namo Bharat Express.
Eight Amrit Bharat trains are already in service, offering modern features at affordable fares and receiving strong feedback from passengers.
Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Nimuben Bambhaniya joined the event, reinforcing the importance of rail reform in national infrastructure strategy.
