Military mobility in Poland puts rail logistics in focus
15.05.2026
Military mobility in Poland is now part of PKP Cargo’s cooperation with the Ministry of National Defense. The agreement is linked to defense logistics and rail transport. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

PKP Cargo, which is currently undergoing restructuring, has signed the agreement to begin cooperation in the country’s military mobility sector.
The agreement creates a framework for joint work on logistics and transport capabilities. These capabilities are used by the Polish Armed Forces. In practical terms, it sets areas for cooperation now. Specific projects are to be defined later through separate agreements. The document does not create direct financial obligations between the parties. It is being developed in the context of current tense geopolitical changes.
The document covers the development of rail transport for military equipment and heavy machinery. It also includes terminal infrastructure and industrial lines operated by PKP Cargo. In addition, it covers locomotives capable of running on non-electrified routes. Also, the agreement refers to security, communications, and rapid response solutions for crisis situations.
Military mobility in Poland becomes a priority
As Railway PRO reported, Polish Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said the agreement is important. It concerns infrastructure that can support the rapid deployment of Polish and allied troops.
“Today’s agreement allows for the preparation of strategic infrastructure for the deployment of our troops and those of our allies. Military mobility is currently one of the key issues within NATO and the European Union. It defines our development directions, our ability to move, and the efficiency of carrying out various operations. Poland is a leader in this field,” Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated at the signing of the agreement.
The official also emphasized that Poland is already working with Germany and the Netherlands. The cooperation is intended to facilitate the rapid movement of troops. It also supports work on a new security architecture in the Baltic Sea region. At the same time, rail infrastructure and logistics connections have become essential for the European military mobility sector.
Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak said the agreement clearly sets out cooperation between three parties. These are PKP Cargo, the Ministry of Defense, and the Polish military. According to him, it also restores the company’s strategic role for the national economy and security.
“Thus, PKP Cargo returns to a strategic role, not only as a pillar of the Polish economy but also as an essential element of national security and defense. It is a very good day for the Polish railway and for national security,” said Dariusz Klimczak, Minister of Infrastructure.
Investments for dual-use transport
The Polish Ministry of National Defense has declared support for developing dual-use transport. This includes the resources and investments needed for such transport. In addition, it includes projects that may benefit from funding dedicated to defense needs.
The cooperation may cover initiatives related to the transport of heavy military equipment. Separately, it may cover the security of rail transport for military units. This applies both inside Poland and beyond the country’s borders.
The document is a framework agreement concluded for an indefinite period.
Through this partnership, Poland is strengthening its strategic railway infrastructure. It is also consolidating its position in the European military mobility sector. This sector is considered increasingly important for NATO and European Union security and response capabilities.
