Louisiana International Terminal will be operated by a joint venture, according to Port NOLA. The partners are the Port of New Orleans, Ports America and Terminal Investment Ltd. Also, the new company is Louisiana International Terminal Holdings LLC. It is set to run the proposed freight container terminal.

Separately, the joint venture will manage terminal operations in coordination with Port NOLA. At the same time, Port NOLA remains responsible for the facility’s design and construction. Ports America is a U.S. terminal operator and stevedore. In addition, Terminal Investment Ltd. is a global terminal investor and operator. It is part of the MSC Group.
Rail links and terminal layout
The terminal layout is still being developed. According to the LIT terminal layout page, the latest draft is from October 2025. It includes:
- an intermodal rail yard
- rail-car inspection and maintenance areas
- a rail fueling area
- a rail support yard
Still, the LIT connectivity page says the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad will serve the terminal. Also, it will provide connections to all six Class I railroads.
Container terminal capacity plans
At opening, the container terminal is expected to handle between 180,000 and 280,000 containers. Meanwhile, the website says annual capacity is projected to grow. At full buildout, it is projected to reach 1.2 million containers. In addition, that full buildout may take up to 25 years.
