USA: BNSF Railway has expanded its Phoenix–Dallas-Fort Worth intermodal service to six days a week, months before the first phase of Logistics Park Phoenix is expected to open.

The railroad announced the change on Aug. 10, offering freight availability in North Texas just over three days after departure from the Phoenix area, according to KJZZ. The service runs through BNSF’s existing Arizona gateway and its Alliance Intermodal Facility north of Fort Worth. BNSF did not specify how frequently the previous schedule ran, only that six days a week is the new offer.

BNSF expands Phoenix–Dallas service before new terminal opens

This frequency increase is separate from Logistics Park Phoenix, the $3.2 billion, 4,320-acre development BNSF is building in northwest Maricopa County. Construction on the first 350-acre intermodal facility began in early 2026, with site preparation starting in the spring and operations expected in early 2027. The expanded Phoenix-DFW service uses capacity BNSF already has, while the new terminal is intended to add intermodal capacity in northwest Maricopa County once it opens. The change follows BNSF’s broader push to build more eastbound intermodal options out of Phoenix, including a 2025 Phoenix-Atlanta service with CSX and added siding capacity toward Flagstaff on the Southern Transcon route.

What comes next for BNSF Phoenix–Dallas intermodal service

Watch for whether the six-day schedule holds through the domestic peak shipping season BNSF cited as the reason for the expansion, since railroads sometimes scale seasonal frequency back once volumes normalize. The next comparison will be how traffic on the existing service changes after the new Logistics Park Phoenix terminal opens in early 2027.
