Kolkata Metro next-generation trains will be added to the city’s metro network over the next five years, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday.

Kolkata Metro next-generation trains planned over five years

He made the comments after his meeting with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at Nabanna⁠. Vaishnaw said Kolkata Metro had added only 28 km of network during its first 42 years, while 45 km of new lines had been commissioned since 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.

Vaishnaw said:

“In the next five years, 60 next-generation trains will be introduced for Kolkata Metro. Today, I travelled on the Kolkata Metro. We will revamp it,”

Bullet train corridors also highlighted

The minister also referred to the proposed Delhi–Varanasi and Varanasi–Siliguri bullet train corridors⁠. He said the high-speed rail projects would significantly reduce journey times and connect Siliguri with New Delhi in about six hours.
