Fresno high-speed rail separation project moves ahead

The Fresno high-speed rail separation project advanced last week. At the same time, the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) announced completion of the Cesar Chavez Boulevard underpass in Fresno. Also, the route reopened to motorists and pedestrians between downtown Fresno and the city’s Chinatown area.

In addition, the underpass includes two traffic lanes in each direction. Meanwhile, it also has bike lanes and protected pedestrian walkways. Separately, those facilities sit beneath the existing Union Pacific Railroad tracks. Still, they also sit beneath the future high-speed rail line.

Meanwhile, Fresno City Council Vice President Miguel Arias said: “The completion of the Cesar Chavez Boulevard underpass restores a vital connection between southwest Fresno and downtown along one of Fresno’s major east-west arterial roads, improving traffic flow and accessibility to local businesses.”
CHSRA Central Valley segment reaches 59 structures
Separately, CHSRA officials said the Central Valley segment now has 59 completed structures. Still, they said it is the first structure completed in 2026. For example, the crossing is less than a mile from the future CHSRA Fresno Station.
