Sydney M1 line closures scheduled before Bankstown services
17.03.2026
Sydney M1 line closures will take place on several dates. Testing and integration work will continue before services extend to Bankstown later this year.

Sydney M1 line closures in March and April
As reported by Rail Express, the full line will close on Saturday March 21. Meanwhile, it will also close on Sunday March 22. In addition, the line will close from Friday April 3 to Monday April 6.
In addition, Sydney Metro’s Southwest conversion team is carrying out critical tests across the line. Also, the work includes on-track testing, software upgrades and integration work. Still, the longer Easter shutdown is needed for complex works and systems integration. Those works cannot be completed during standard weekend possessions.

Replacement buses and Sydney Trains services
Separately, replacement buses will run between Tallawong and Chatswood. At the same time, Sydney Trains will operate services from Chatswood to Sydenham. Sydney Metro notes the service change.
Meanwhile, additional partial closures are planned for Saturday March 28 and Sunday March 29. For example, metro services will not run between Macquarie Park and Victoria Cross. This will apply on those dates. Also, Sydney Trains will complete trackwork at Chatswood. In addition, Sydney Trains services will not run at Chatswood Station during that period. Passengers are advised to use replacement buses.
Testing and integration work on the City section
Meanwhile, the City section of the line will also close on Saturday April 18. Also, it will close on Sunday April 19. The closure will apply between Chatswood and Sydenham.
In addition, night works are scheduled from 9.50pm on Monday March 30. They will continue to Wednesday April 1. During that time, metro services between Central and Sydenham will not run. Still, customers are advised to use Sydney Trains services instead.
As previously covered by Railway Supply, the testing programme is tied to the Bankstown extension. Meanwhile, Sydney Metro said more closures will be needed as testing continues. Customers will be updated through transport apps, travel alerts and station announcements.
