FlixTrain Vectron locomotive has been presented for the new Talgo 230 trainsets scheduled to enter service from 2028. The Siemens Mobility Vectron unit will be used as part of FlixTrain’s future long-distance fleet in Germany. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

According to Railmarket, the locomotive is intended for push-pull operation with the 65 Talgo trainsets already on order for Germany. In these formations, the Vectron units will provide traction for Talgo 230 trains designed to operate at up to 230 km/h.

Each set will consist of articulated coaches. A driving trailer will be placed at one end, with a locomotive at the other.

Talgo 230 trainsets and Munich plans

The first locomotive was displayed in Munich. FlixTrain plans to integrate the Bavarian capital into its rail network from 2028. Also, the locomotive carries the name “Bayern.”

The wider Talgo framework agreement, announced earlier, covers up to 65 trainsets. In addition, it has a potential total value of around EUR 2.4bn including maintenance. The Vectron locomotives form part of the traction package for FlixTrain’s new long-distance fleet.
