Feb. 8 changes: Amtrak Capitol Corridor reservations for Super Bowl
03.02.2026
Amtrak Capitol Corridor reservations will be required on Feb. 8 as the carrier prepares for heavier travel tied to Super Bowl Sunday and the traffic issues around the stadium — street closures and limited parking — as previously covered by Railway Supply.

An Amtrak travel advisory says the temporary rule applies to the Capitol Corridor San Jose to Auburn route. Trains originating in Auburn make several Bay Area stops — including Richmond, Emeryville, Oakland and Fremont — before reaching Santa Clara. On most days, the Capitol Corridor does not require reservations.

Amtrak also said tickets purchased for other dates and trains will not be honored on Feb. 8. That includes monthly tickets, multi-ride tickets and Tap2Ride.
If you’re trying to skip the drive, the Santa Clara–Great America station is about a five-minute walk from the stadium. Amtrak’s ridership report said the Capitol Corridor was the company’s sixth-busiest route in 2025, and the line carried more than 1.1 million riders last year — a 10.3% increase from 2024 — according to the FY25 Year End Ridership fact sheet (PDF).
Amtrak Capitol Corridor reservations and train times
To handle the expected influx, Amtrak has adjusted logistics and some train schedules. Westbound trains 729, 733 and 737 will arrive at Santa Clara–Great America before the game, which is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
After the game, eastbound trains 746, 748 and 750 and westbound train 747 are set to depart from the station. Train 736 will remain canceled until March 1.
Parking, shuttles, ride-hailing, and bike access
Amtrak is also moving its parking, shuttles and ride-hailing lots to 2111 West Tasman Drive. The location is accessible from Tasman Drive at the Lick Mill Blvd. intersection and from Calle Del Mundo.
A mobility shuttle is available upon request for passengers who need additional assistance. Amtrak warned that bike access will be restricted, and cyclists will have to use a detour.
