EU Backs LTG Cargo Polska Fleet Expansion: 72 New Intermodal Wagons Hit the Tracks
28.04.2026
LTG Cargo Polska pocket wagons are being introduced on the 1,435 mm European-gauge route. The service runs between Kaunas and Duisburg and is adding 72 new units. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Also, Railway-News reported that Kolowag produced the wagons last year specifically for LTG Cargo Polska. They were built for this corridor. In addition, the route includes a stop at a major Polish logistics hub in Łódź.
Intermodal transport on the Kaunas–Duisburg line
The new railcars are configured for intermodal transport. For example, each unit allows standard semi-trailers to be loaded quickly and easily. No special securing process is needed.
Laimonas Nekrošius, President of LTG Cargo Polska, said:
LTG Cargo Polska places a strong emphasis on operational efficiency and improving customer experience. The new pocket wagons will ensure the reliability of the transport services.
We believe that both we and our customers will benefit from this purchase.
EU co-financing and route development
Separately, the acquisition received European Union co-financing as public aid, according to LTG Cargo Polska. The aid came under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The Kaunas–Duisburg cargo route was launched in 2022. The launch followed the connection of that European standard-gauge line to the Kaunas intermodal terminal. In addition, intermodal cargo now runs on the route three times per week. Also, the service was extended last year to include the Łódź stop.
