Approval followed after tests at the experimental site in Shcherbinka. This was reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to Ural Locomotives.

Oleg Spai, General Director of Ural Locomotives, said that the certification of three- and four-section units will open up new opportunities for the use of locomotives in heavy trains.

The use of one booster section will allow locomotives to transport trains weighing up to 8,000 tons, and two ones – up to 12,500 tons, with the distributed brake control system used.
