Ural Locomotives have started the pilot assembly of units for the 2ES6A electric locomotive

A pilot assembly of a wheel-motor unit was carried out at the Ural Locomotives plant for a new electric locomotive with an induction motor 2ES6A, informs Railway Supply magazine referring to the manufacturer’s website.

Compared to the rolling stock already produced at the plant, the elements of the wheel-motor unit of the new 2ES6A electric locomotive differ in a design and the use of fundamentally new solutions in their creation. Thus, the housing of the axle motor bearings is split, which allows the bearing to be released when the wheel pair is disbanded in order to minimize the damage to the axle.

The designers have laid down the resource of 1.8 million kilometers in 2ES6A, which is 50% higher than that of the 2ES6 series locomotive.

It is planned that the new asynchronous motor, which would be used in the locomotive, will be much lighter than the motors of the 2ES6 and 2ES10 electric locomotives, which will increase operational characteristics.

A prototype of the 2ES6A locomotive is planned to be presented in December 2021.
