The throughput of terminals needs to be increased by 5 times

Now it is possible to reload 1 million tons of grain per month at the terminals located on the western border of Ukraine.
However, the throughput needs to be increased to at least 5 million tons per month.
Oleksandr Kamyshin, Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, said this on the air of Ukrainian Radio, reports Railway Supply magazine with reference to Railinsider.
According to the official, part of this can be achieved by increasing the throughput of existing terminals.
“Which part of the terminals can be equipped with mobile transshipment systems. This is a fairly simple installation: the car loads grain into the ark with its body, the ark immediately loads it into the wagon. Some part should be covered with more powerful stationary terminals. The most difficult thing in this is stationary terminals, because construction takes at least a year. Mobile units can be delivered in a few weeks,” said Alexander Kamyshin.
He noted that there are difficulties with subsequent logistics in the EU.
“Not all ports in Europe are ready to accept such a volume of grain in order to unload it further for export. Not all consumers in Europe are ready to accept the increased volume of grain – factories, flour mills. There will be no problems with the railroad. It will be difficult to ensure that it is bought in the proper volume and exported further, ”said the head of the company.
As previously reported, Ukraine can export grain worth $7.5 billion.
