Robel’s new subway rail milling technology is featured in the three-unit ROMILL Urban E³ train developed for Plasser American Corporation. It is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to zdmira.

Robel

The train structure, drive system and rail surface milling technology were developed by Schweerbau International, and the measuring equipment was developed by Vogel & Plötscher. Structural solutions and technological processes take into account the specifics of the subway, in particular the small dimensions of the tunnels.

The train is equipped with a hybrid drive, including an energy storage device based on batteries and a diesel engine with improved environmental performance. The use of an electric drive of the milling mechanism makes it possible to process rails without harmful emissions, including at low track quality. Sparking and the release of small metal particles are minimized, a mechanism for collecting metal chips is provided, which is further processed. The high-speed rail processing technology achieves a high surface quality, thereby reducing the noise level during the movement of trains.
