Passenger trains may stop completely in Moldova

State Enterprise “Railway of Moldova” will suspend the movement of suburban trains from February 12. This was announced by representatives of the company at a meeting of the parliamentary commission on economy, budget and finance during a discussion of the situation with wage arrears, reports railway magazine Railway Supply with a link to the website newsmaker.md

Passenger trains may stop

“Nobody subsidizes suburban transportation, so far they only create expenses for the enterprise. These trains are outdated and dangerous for passengers. Summer is coming soon, they can catch fire,” said the representative of the railway company.

Currently, only a few worn-out suburban diesel trains remain in Moldova, which follow in three directions: from Chisinau to Bendery and Ungheni, as well as on the Balti – Ocnita route.

Since the last spring, due to the pandemic, international passenger trains and part of domestic passenger routes have stopped running. Thus, from February 12, the movement of passenger trains may completely stop in Moldova
