freight locomotives

We are talking about changing the agreement to multifunctional locomotives designed for traction of passenger and freight cars, instead of locomotives designed for traction of freight cars, reports the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to urm.media.

The loan agreement between Moldova and the EBRD on the project for the acquisition of locomotives and restructuring of the railway infrastructure was signed on November 14, 2014.

EBRD to provide Moldova with a loan for the reconstruction of the railway network

Its cost is 52.5 million euros, including the first tranche (25 million euros for locomotives) and the second tranche (27.5 million euros for the restoration of the railway infrastructure). The loan is provided for 15 years. Both projects are subject to approval.

Let us remind you that the European Commissioner for Transport Adina Velyan visited Moldova and spoke about the vision of the European Commission regarding the development of the country railway transport. She noted that Moldova should invest in a mechanism for adapting rolling stock to different routes.

According to her, it is important to determine technical solutions so that communication with both Ukraine and Romania is ensured at the level of railways.
