MIU plans to increase responsibility for dismantling freight wagons
MIU plans to increase responsibility for dismantling freight wagons. On the website of the Ministry of Infrastructure, a draft law “On Amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine and the Law of Ukraine“ On Scrap Metal ”regarding the strengthening of liability for interference in the activities of railway transport” has been published.
The project proposes to increase the fine for a crime from 1 500 to 2 000 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens (now from 50 to 200) and leave the norm on corrective labor for up to two years, or imprisonment for up to one year, reports Railway Supply magazine.
The explanatory note states that in 2019 alone, the regional branches of UZ recorded 25 957 facts of dismantling of freight cars. According to them, UZ sent 10 953 written requests to the police. Only 5929 of these criminal proceedings were opened, which is 54% of the total number of appeals.
In September 2020 the MIU has already submitted a relevant bill, but it never got to the Verkhovna Rada.
