The locomotive was purchased for intermodal transportation with the support of European Union funds through the EU Transport Projects Center. The delivery of the locomotive is planned for 2021.

Vectron is the most modern universal locomotive on the European market with a modular design that allows them to be easily adapted to the requirements of operation and the specifics of traffic in different countries and different operating conditions. The locomotive was designed to fulfill various transport tasks, such as the efficiency and profitability of performing traction tasks in domestic and international transportation, both passenger and freight, in Europe.

In Poland more than 50 Vectron locomotives were purchased by PKP Cargo, DB Cargo Polska, Cargounit (Industrial Division) and Laude Smart Intermodal. LOTOS Kolej has joined this group.
