Localization of the production of electric locomotives in Ukraine
On October 22, during a meeting with representatives of Alstom, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladislav Krykliy noted that the maximum localization of the production of electric locomotives in Ukraine is a priority in updating the rolling stock of modern Ukrzaliznytsia.
Ukraine is open to the implementation of new initiatives designed to create and develop a modern rail and transport infrastructure and ready to make full use of its transit potential on the largest international transport corridors.
Ukrzaliznytsia previously announced the start of the selection process for a manufacturer of electric locomotives to renew its fleet. During the implementation of the project, it is expected to achieve an up to 50% production localization level. In general, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to purchase 205 new mainline electric locomotives, including 135 AC locomotives, 50 DC locomotives and 20 two-system AC / DC locomotives (25 kV / 3 kV), as railway magazine «Railway Supply» reports with reference to the website of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.
