Egypt signed an agreement with Siemens to build a high-speed rail network
The Egyptian National Tunnel Authority, which reports to the country’s Ministry of Transport, has signed a letter of intent with Siemens Mobility to conceptualize, build and commission the country’s first 1000 km high-speed network, reports Railway Supply magazine with reference to Siemens Mobility.
In accordance with the agreement, local companies – Orascom Construction and enterprises belonging to The Arab Contractors group (Osman Ahmed Osman & Co.) will participate in the creation of this network. In addition, the agreement provides the supply of high-speed and regional trains by Siemens Mobility, as well as locomotives, system integration work, maintenance of rolling stock and other systems and services.
The first project, worth about US $ 3 billion, provides for the construction of a 460 km high-speed railway. This line will connect the cities of El Alamein on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt and Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea coast of the Gulf of Suez.
