DHL Global Forwarding is ready to consider buying DB Schenker if German rail corporation DB decides to sell, CEO Tim Scharwath said at the TPM conference in Long Beach. Railway Supply reported this, citing InfraNews.

Sharwath’s wording, however, was very careful and cautious. He stressed that the decision would be made very carefully with the interests of the entire Deutsche Post group in mind.

Deutsche Bahn AG’s Supervisory Board has instructed the group’s Management Board to prepare for the sale of up to 100 percent of the group’s logistics operator in December, but a final decision has not yet been made. The sale of DB Schenker to a German corporation may be much preferable from a political point of view.

In addition to DHL, analysts name the Danish DSV and the Swiss Kuehne + Nagel among the most likely buyers. Thus, the three largest logistics providers in the world are the main contenders for DB Schenker. DB Schenker ranks fourth in the 3PL ranking in terms of revenue and volume in 2021. Joining this business with any of the three leaders would create the world’s largest operator in both maritime and air freight.
