East Harbour Transit Hub station construction: what work is underway

The hub is located east of the Don Valley Parkway and south of Eastern Avenue. Major construction activity on the wider site began in 2025. Also, excavation and drilling were completed during the initial phase.

Current work is focused on foundation construction for the principal station building. This includes the pouring of structural concrete, according to Metrolinx.

Separately, crews are carrying out Eastern Avenue bridge widening so the structure can accommodate six rail tracks.

A new connection point for GO rail lines and the Ontario Line

Plans call for East Harbour to function as a connection point for the Lakeshore East and Stouffville GO rail lines. It is also planned to connect with the Ontario Line, as Metrolinx notes.

In addition, the interchange is intended to expand transport options, shorten journey times and reduce pressure on other parts of the city’s network.

Meanwhile, project partners expect the station to become Toronto’s second-busiest transit facility once operational. Forecasts indicate it could reduce peak-time crowding at Union Station by up to 14 percent, equivalent to around 14,000 passengers.

GO Expansion programme and the East Harbour district development

The East Harbour Transit Hub forms part of the wider GO Expansion programme led by Metrolinx in partnership with the governments of Canada and Ontario and the municipal administration in Toronto, as Railway Supply reported.

Once completed, the station is projected to handle about 100,000 passenger journeys each day, with train frequencies of up to every five minutes during peak periods.

At the same time, the hub will also be integrated into a 38-acre transit-oriented development planned for the surrounding East Harbour district, combining residential and commercial construction alongside the transport infrastructure.
