28.02.2026
The D Line subway extension will open to passengers on May 8, when L.A. Metro starts running trains through the Mid-Wilshire corridor into Beverly Hills, California, according to Progressive Railroading. The nearly 4-mile addition is the first of three D Line extension sections planned to total 9 miles.

In this first section, the line moves past its current terminus in Koreatown and continues beneath Wilshire Boulevard. L.A. Metro is adding three new underground stations near La Brea Street, Fairfax Avenue, and La Cienega Boulevard, as outlined on the official Metro D Line Extension page. In addition, the agency said the new stops will improve access to destinations such as Museum Row and Restaurant Row.

Timeline for the LA Metro D Line extension to Westwood
Meanwhile, the Beverly Hills opening is the first phase of the broader LA Metro D Line extension project (Railway Supply). According to the project webpage, L.A. Metro plans to open the second and third sections in 2027. Once complete, the D Line will run from downtown Los Angeles into the Westwood neighborhood.
Funding and the Twenty-Eight by ’28 plan
Separately, section one was funded primarily by L.A. Metro’s 2008 Measure R transportation sales tax, with additional support from the Federal Transit Administration. The federal funding includes $1.25 billion from full-funding grant agreements, a $66.4 million New Starts grant, and a $749.3 million loan under the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act.
Still, the D Line extension is also part of L.A. Metro’s Twenty-Eight by ’28 accelerated transit improvement plan ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
