The CRRC has mastered the production of medium-speed ammonia-diesel engines
12.12.2023
At the Dalian plant, a stand featuring the first dual-fuel twelve-cylinder engine, 12V240H-DFA, was showcased, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
It claims to generate up to 208 kW of energy from a single cylinder, with 85% of power coming from ammonia, reducing CO2 emissions by 80%.

The engine utilizes low-pressure multi-point ammonia injection and high-pressure diesel injection technology.
Additionally, it’s equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger to optimize fuel consumption.
Initially designed for maritime transport, the engine is set for pilot operation on a tugboat in 2024, commissioned by the COSCO container operator.
Worth noting is that this engine is based on the 12V240H unit used in CRRC’s 2018 FXN3B maneuvering locomotive with a power of 2.7 MW.
