CRRC has delivered 10 hybrid locomotives to Sierra Leone

CRRC Ziyang Co, a Chinese giant in the railway equipment industry, has officially handed over 10 hybrid locomotives for the 1067 mm gauge to the mining company Leone Rock Metal Group in Sierra Leone, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

These diesel-electric alternating current locomotives have an incredible power of 3680 kW, allowing them to transport trains weighing up to 10,000 tons.

It’s no secret that their main purpose is to serve the world’s largest mine, New Tonkoliri, located in the heart of Sierra Leone.
CRRC Ziyang Co notes that the production and delivery of locomotives to the customer took only 3 months – a new production record for the company.
This success is not only evidence of production efficiency but also confirmation of the growing influence of Chinese companies in the African region.
CRRC has already delivered more than 200 locomotives of various types to 20 African countries, highlighting their important role in developing the continent’s railway infrastructure.

This contract not only underscores the close trade ties between China and Sierra Leone but also confirms the country’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure and developing the mining sector.
The delivery of such powerful and advanced locomotives from CRRC is an important step in this direction and undoubtedly contributes to further economic development in Sierra Leone.
