BMRCL Pink Line testing starts on Kalena–Tavarekere
12.01.2026
BMRCL Pink Line testing is now underway on the Pink Line corridor between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere, taking the project a step closer to opening for service. Main Line Testing began on January 11, 2026, on an elevated section of about 7.5 km, as reported by RailAnalysis.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
BMRCL Pink Line testing schedule and segment details
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the operator of Namma Metro, has set the testing period for this section from January 11, 2026 to mid-April 2026. The start of testing and the timeline have also been covered by The Indian Express. This activity sits within Phase-2 of the Bangalore Metro Rail Project and follows the pre-commissioning steps typically completed before public operations begin.

The corridor under trial runs from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere and is listed at 7.37 km as an elevated alignment. The purpose of this stage is to validate performance in field conditions and ensure different systems operate together as required ahead of passenger service.
What Main Line Testing covers on the Pink Line?
Main Line Testing is a required step before commissioning because it checks how rolling stock and core metro subsystems behave outside controlled settings. During this period, BMRCL will carry out traction performance tests and brake system tests, along with oscillation trials at different speeds.
It will also run integration tests with signalling systems and verify power supply and telecommunication system integration. Together, these technical trials are intended to meet statutory and safety requirements and confirm that the corridor’s systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.
Stations and current Namma Metro network
The elevated stretch being tested covers five stations: Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIMB, J.P. Nagar 4th Phase, and Tavarekere. Once the corridor is opened for commuters, it is expected to improve connectivity in South Bangalore, reduce traffic congestion, and provide a dependable public transport alternative.
BMRCL is a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka, tasked with implementing and operating the Bangalore Metro Rail Project. Metro services currently run across 97 km in Bangalore, including the 43.49 km East–West Corridor from Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Challaghatta, the 33.5 km North–South Corridor from Madavara to Silk Institute, and the 19.75 km Yellow Line from RV Road to Bommasandra.
Notably, the Bangalore Metro is described as India’s first metro rail project to be commissioned with 750V DC third-rail traction on standard gauge; related technical context has been discussed by Railway Supply.
With Main Line Testing continuing on the Pink Line’s Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere elevated section, BMRCL is moving through safety validation and system integration ahead of commissioning and public launch.
