Bangladesh Coaches Pair EN 15227 Design With 415 V System

BANGLADESH: A 19-coach rake built in India for Bangladesh Railway is set to be dispatched with a redesigned crashworthy car body compliant with EN 15227 and an electrical system configured for 415 V operation.

The rake from Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala comprises three AC sleeper cars, three AC chair cars, 11 non-AC chair cars and two power cars. It begins deliveries under a 200-coach broad-gauge contract being executed by RITES.

EN 15227 Drove a Comprehensive Car-Body Redesign

The coaches incorporate crashworthy design provisions intended to comply with European Standard EN 15227. The supplied project information says this required a comprehensive redesign of the car-body shell to enhance collision performance and passenger safety.

RITES secured the ₹915 crore project in May 2024 through global competitive bidding, with financing from the European Investment Bank. The wider order covers 200 broad-gauge passenger coaches for Bangladesh Railway.

India previously supplied 120 broad-gauge passenger coaches to Bangladesh in 2015–16. The new 19-coach rake restarts coach supply after a decade, while its documented technical changes cover both the car-body crashworthiness provisions and the onboard electrical architecture.
