Amtrak maintenance facilities plan focuses on full trainsets
23.02.2026
Amtrak maintenance facilities are entering a new phase. The operator begins construction on new and upgraded sites across the United States to support both today’s fleet and future trainsets, as reported by Railway-News.

Amtrak maintenance facilities designed for full trainsets
The new and upgraded maintenance facilities are planned to include provisions that allow full trainsets to be inspected and serviced together. Also, Amtrak says this combined approach is expected to reduce downtime and improve efficiency across the board. It is intended to support existing equipment and future generations of trainsets, according to Amtrak.
Major maintenance hubs and satellite locations across the network
Major facilities are being developed in key hub locations including Seattle, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and upstate New York. Meanwhile, the programme includes additional satellite locations across the network to support maintenance activities and improve coverage beyond the main hubs, as previously covered by Railway Supply.
Federal Railroad Administration partnership and expected benefits
Alongside reduced downtime and improved efficiency, the investments are intended to help keep equipment in stronger condition and improve operational performance. At the same time, the goal is to ensure trains are ready for customers. Separately, the programme is being delivered in partnership with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), and Amtrak has also published a recent video highlighting the development.
