Amtrak F40 donated to Nevada museum

Amtrak 315 was donated in March by its previous owner, Western Rail near Spokane, Wash. Also, the locomotive no longer has a prime mover. In addition, it is set to be moved to Nevada in the coming months.

F40PH anniversary and Nevada exhibit plans

Meanwhile, March marks the 50th anniversary of the delivery of the first F40PH locomotive to Amtrak. For example, the engines were essentially a passenger version of EMD’s popular GP40 freight locomotive. Still, they became closely associated with passenger rail service in North America during the final decades of the 20th century. At the same time, as the museum noted, it plans to place the locomotive on display. Separately, it plans to use the interior as exhibit space for a presentation about the F40PHs and Amtrak in Nevada.
