Amazon Launches High-Speed Parcel Delivery via TGV in France
16.05.2025
Amazon has started shipping parcels on high-speed TGV trains between Paris and Lyon, aiming to send over 500,000 items in 2025, or about 1,500 packages each day. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
These deliveries use dedicated cargo compartments, not passenger areas, ensuring efficient logistics without affecting traveler comfort or safety. Unlike Japan’s model, Amazon keeps shipments fully separated from public space.

By shifting to rail, the company significantly shortens delivery times. Trains make the trip in under two and a half hours, compared to eight hours by road, which helps meet faster shipping demands.
This move also supports Amazon’s climate goals. Rail transport cuts CO₂ emissions, offering a lower-impact alternative to traditional trucking methods across Europe.
Amazon Embraces Sustainable Logistics Through Rail
The collaboration with SNCF’s Rail Logistics Europe enables Amazon to move large parcel volumes with fewer emissions. This aligns with its plan to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
The route operates six days per week, maximizing both speed and efficiency. Every train helps reduce truck traffic, easing pressure on roads and cutting environmental impact.
Amazon’s Rail Strategy Could Expand Across Europe
If successful, the Paris–Lyon model may be extended to other high-speed routes. Amazon already plans to increase its use of rail and sea freight across the continent.
This partnership brings mutual benefits. Amazon gains reliability and scale, while SNCF monetizes underused train space by entering e-commerce logistics.
Amazon’s new strategy demonstrates how high-speed trains can deliver both speed and sustainability. Other retailers may follow this path as green logistics becomes the industry standard.
