The deal is valued at more than PLN 96 million gross. Also, it covers 11 electric units that provide critical transit links across the Warsaw metropolitan area and the broader Mazovian province. Repairs are scheduled to run throughout 2026 and 2027. Additionally, once accepted by the regional operator, each locomotive will carry a 19-month warranty.

Technical scope of the P5 maintenance level

Technicians working under the P5 maintenance level standard will conduct thorough diagnostics. At the same time, they will refurbish mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems. This process includes a complete renewal of the locomotive body paint.

For example, bogies receive specific focus. They undergo non-destructive testing—including ultrasonic (UT) and magnetic particle (MT) methods—alongside wheelset overhauls. Separately, using Alstom’s FlexCare Perform service solutions, the carrier intends to maintain high performance and availability for years to come.

“We are pleased that in the coming quarters we will be supporting Mazovian Railways in modernising its fleet, enabling Traxx locomotives to reliably serve the regional operator, which has been breaking passenger transport records, for many years to come. Worldwide, Alstom currently provides maintenance services for more than 2,450 locomotives, including over 600 modern multi-system Traxx locomotives. We proudly observe the growing position of Traxx locomotives on the Polish market as one of the pillars of safe, reliable and cost-effective railways, both in passenger and freight transport. In Alstom’s Polish sites, we are continuously developing the value chain related to the production and maintenance of Traxx locomotives – from manufacturing key components to consistently strengthening service capabilities,” emphasises Beata Rusinowicz, Managing Director of Alstom in Poland.

Strategic impact of P5 overhauls for Traxx locomotives

Over 100 Traxx electric locomotives currently operate on the Polish rail network. Meanwhile, that number will grow as orders for 60 additional Traxx Universal units proceed. Much of the global supply chain is rooted in Poland. Additionally, car bodies and other major components come from the Alstom Wrocław manufacturing site. This local industrial presence helps meet the rising demand for professional maintenance as operators prioritize fleet reliability.

Fleet modernization and record passenger volumes

Last year, Mazovian Railways served a record-breaking 70 million passengers. Also, meeting this demand required major investments. These included contracts for 101 diverse vehicles signed from 2023 to 2025. In addition, this overhaul project continues that push to modernize existing stock. As noted in previous coverage by Railway Supply, these efforts previously enabled the carrier to become Poland’s first operator of push-pull services.

“Mazovian Railways are one of the leaders in the passenger rail market. Last year, a record number of passengers used our services – over 70 million. We continuously improve the quality of our transport services by investing in the purchase of modern rolling stock. In 2023–2025 alone, we signed contracts for the purchase of 101 vehicles of various types. We also focus on modernising the vehicles already in operation, including Traxx locomotives. Thanks to them, we were the first operator in the country to launch push‑pull services. Locomotives play a key role in operating accelerated services on lines with high passenger volumes. The major overhaul they will soon undergo will undoubtedly contribute to improved safety and travel comfort on our trains,” says Robert Stępień, CEO of Mazovian Railways.
