ZSSK CARGO first-mile logistics will support Volvo Cars’ new manufacturing facility in Valaliky. The rail freight company won a tender for the work. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The factory is located near Košice in Slovakia. It is expected to begin full commercial operation in mid-2027.

Scope of first-mile rail logistics in Valaliky

The work is centred on plant-side rail handling for vehicle loading. It also covers onward movement through Valaliky station and the Košice railway hub.

Under the agreement, ZSSK Cargo will handle dispatch activities, reporting, and empty wagon positioning for vehicle loading. In Volvo Cars’ supplier evaluation process, the company received 95 points out of 100. The assessment covered technical procedures and process maturity.

The contract also includes managing rail movements from the factory siding to Valaliky station. It also covers onward transit to the Košice railway hub. Separately, the award adds to other service tenders given to ZSSK Cargo for similar operations. The company already provides logistics services for manufacturing plants in Slovakia, including Volkswagen, Jaguar Land Rover, Stelantis, and KIA.
