Trieste–Cervignano rail shuttle starts in Italy
26.06.2026
The Trieste–Cervignano rail shuttle has started operating, linking HHLA PLT Italy’s terminal at the Port of Trieste with the Cervignano intermodal terminal.

The service began in mid-June 2026. During the initial phase, it will operate with two arrivals and two departures per week.
Rail shuttle supports Ro-Ro traffic
Plus Intermodal operates the connection as agent for duisport. The shuttle is intended to support Ro-Ro traffic handled by HHLA PLT Italy and link maritime flows at Trieste with inland rail handling at Cervignano del Friuli.
Friuli Venezia Giulia gains another rail link
The service adds another rail connection within the logistics network of Friuli Venezia Giulia. It also connects HHLA PLT Italy with the wider duisport network serving Central and Eastern European markets.

The Trieste–Cervignano shuttle links two facilities with existing intermodal functions. HHLA PLT Italy describes its Trieste site as a multipurpose terminal in the Free Port of Trieste, handling container, Ro-Ro and general cargo with access to HHLA’s European rail network. Its rail facilities include four 300 m tracks and capacity for up to six full train movements per day. Cervignano is positioned as an intermodal hub connected to TEN-T corridors, ports and major motorway routes.
Interporto di Trieste also participated in the project. The Cervignano connection forms part of HHLA PLT Italy’s development of rail-based hinterland links from the North Adriatic.
