Transit of Ukrainian grain through Poland will improve
12.04.2023
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food hopes to compensate for the suspension of grain exports to Poland by increasing its transit under new rules to be agreed in the coming weeks. It is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to Rail.insider.
“The transit of Ukrainian grain through the territory of Poland should not be affected. On the contrary, it will get better dynamics. The queues should be reduced. Among the decisions that are currently being discussed, first of all, are the issues of improving transit procedures, the absence of delays in road and rail transport going to Polish ports or to other countries, including the EU,” said Mykola Solsky, head of the ministry.

He expressed the hope that the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products will not be checked according to the methodology that is now practiced in Europe, and instead of samples of grain and other products from each car, from each wagon, such cargoes will be checked only with documents. Mykola Solsky emphasized that Ukraine exported not only grain, but also other agricultural products to Poland.
“As for Poland, taking into account the new rules, we see the potential to make up for volumes through transit. The main thing is that it be clear and understandable. Given the different problems, the Poles are ready to delve into the details. Within a week, we will model them, fix them, and they will work,” the head of the department promised.
According to Nikolai Solsky, business should be sympathetic to the difficulties that will be observed during this week. During this period, the authorities intend to coordinate technical issues with businesses, agricultural carriers working with the transit market, as well as hold working negotiations with the Polish side. On Friday, talks are scheduled at the Polish border, after which new rules are expected to be fixed, which “will provide exports with new dynamics.”
The Minister recalled that in Poland there was an acute situation regarding the export of Ukrainian agricultural products from all European countries with which Ukraine has a common border.
“A significant part did not go through transit, but remained in this country. It’s true,” admitted Solsky.
He confirmed that Ukraine has significantly increased exports to European countries, with which he constantly communicates unofficially. At the same time, according to the head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the Ukrainian authorities daily monitor the situation at the borders and, if necessary, are ready for negotiations with representatives of other countries.
