Stadler to produce more FLIRT trains for Slovenian operator Slovenske Rail
15.06.2023
The national carrier of Slovenia will purchase an additional 20 FLIRT DMU trains, according to the Railway Supply magazine.
Following a previous order, Stadler has delivered 26 single and double-decker units and fulfilled options for an additional 26 rolling stock.
Thus, the manufacturer has built and supplied a fleet of three types of trains to Slovenia: FLIRT EMU, FLIRT DMU, and KISS EMU, totaling 52 units.
A unique feature of the fleet is the ability to operate mixed trains composed of single and double-decker cars.
The new contract was signed on board one of the FLIRT DMU vehicles during a journey on the Ljubljana-Grosuplje-Ljubljana route.

Like the vehicles from previous orders, the new trains will be manufactured at the Stadler Polska factory in Siedlce.
The new trains for Slovenia will be an improved version of the existing FLIRT diesel rolling stock.
Compared to the delivered fleet, they will be equipped with enhanced diesel engines to reduce environmental impact and will operate on non-electrified lines in Slovenia. In the future, their diesel power units can be upgraded to a bi-mode version, as reported by Nakolei.
The interior will be spacious and comfortable, designed in a modern style. The trains will have a length of 70.4 meters, width of 2.82 meters, and height of 4.28 meters.
The comfortable trains will accommodate 171 passengers, including 12 in first class. There will also be space for 10 bicycles and 2 wheelchair users.
They will be adapted for a maximum speed of 140 km/h and will be approved for use on railways in Austria and Croatia.
