Landslide halts Sounder and Amtrak service north of Seattle. A slide blocked both tracks of the BNSF main line. The slide occurred between Edmonds and Mukilteo at about 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, April 2. Passenger movements through the area are suspended for 48 hours under BNSF safety protocols.

Landslide halts Sounder and Amtrak service on BNSF line

Sound Transit’s Sounder commuter rail service was suspended after the slide. Amtrak Cascades operations in the area were also suspended. The blockage affected both tracks between Edmonds and Mukilteo, as reported by My Edmonds News.

For the Cascades, buses are replacing trains between Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia. This will continue through 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 4. Empire Builder trains scheduled to arrive in Seattle today will instead terminate in Everett. Trains departing from the city today will instead originate there. Bus transportation will run between Everett and Seattle.

Sounder N line bus bridge and service changes

Sounder N line service is to resume on Monday, April 6, according to Sound Transit service alerts. The line runs between Everett and Seattle and does not operate on weekends. Bus-bridge service will be provided at Everett, Mukilteo, and Edmonds.

Passengers are also encouraged to use existing bus service and the Link light rail system.
