USA: Amtrak’s Piedmont service adjustments will replace parts of three train trips with buses and delay several others during track work between Greensboro and Raleigh on eight days in August 2026.

Amtrak’s Piedmont service page lists the disruption for August 3–6 and August 24–27. The same operating window also appears on the operator’s Carolinian service page, although the detailed changes identify Piedmont trains 72–78.

Three Piedmont trips receive bus connections

On all eight affected days, Train 72 will terminate at Greensboro instead of continuing to Raleigh. Bus 3172 will carry passengers from Greensboro to Raleigh and serve the intermediate stations except Burlington.

Trains 73 and 75 will originate at Greensboro rather than Raleigh. Buses 3173 and 3175 will run from Raleigh to Greensboro for the corresponding connections, again serving every scheduled station except Burlington.

The regular NC By Train Piedmont timetable shows Train 72 operating from Charlotte to Raleigh, while Trains 73 and 75 normally begin in Raleigh and continue to Charlotte. Passengers using the replacement buses should follow station guidance for each transfer.

Piedmont delays will reach up to 70 minutes

Several trains that continue operating will run later than scheduled. Train 74 is expected to be 40–55 minutes late between Charlotte and Raleigh, while Train 73 could be delayed by up to 70 minutes between Greensboro and Charlotte.

Train 76 will run up to 22 minutes late between Cary and Raleigh. Train 77 will operate 40–61 minutes late from Raleigh to Charlotte, and Train 78 will be 30–45 minutes late between Charlotte and Raleigh.

The changes apply only on August 3–6 and August 24–27, 2026. Travelers should allow extra time, check their reservation before departure and follow on-site instructions. Anyone traveling to or from Burlington should confirm arrangements because the substitute buses will not stop there.
