The new depot will be used to service Siemens Mireo Plus B battery-powered trains, which are expected to be put into operation on the SWEG network, reports the railway portal Railway Supply, citing Siemens Mobility.

SWEG will lease the depot from Siemens Mobility for 30 years starting in June 2023. As part of the depot’s opening ceremony, the Mireo Plus B train conducted its first public test run on the route between Offenburg and Gengenbach.

“With this new depot, we have created a new home for sustainable mobility together with SWEG,” said Johannes Emmelheinz, CEO of Siemens Mobility’s Customer Services Division.

In 2020, the Baden-Württemberg State Rail Authority (SFBW) ordered 27 two-carriage Mireo Plus B trains with a capacity of 120 passengers each from Siemens Mobility, featuring battery-powered propulsion.

Thanks to the battery hybrid drive, the trains can operate on both electrified and non-electrified routes. Running on batteries, the Mireo Plus B has a range of approximately 80 km.
