Shorncliffe station will reopen on July 27 after an eight-month closure, restoring direct train services from Brisbane City following extensive heritage restoration and accessibility works.

Train Services Return After Final Preparations

The Translink service update⁠ confirms that Shorncliffe line trains will again operate between Brisbane City and Shorncliffe station from Monday.

During the preceding weekend track closure, route R348 will serve Shorncliffe on Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26. The final R346 shuttle between Sandgate and Shorncliffe operated on Friday, July 24.

Queensland Rail’s reopening program⁠ includes final station-readiness activities, signalling work and a test train before passenger services resume. The temporary R346 shuttle will no longer be required after the station reopens.

A 90-Metre Accessible Boarding Area

The completed upgrade includes 90 metres of high-level platform raising at accessible boarding points. Passengers will also have an accessible entrance ramp, ticket windows, toilet facilities, hearing augmentation loops and tactile ground surface indicators.

Additional improvements include new wayfinding and platform signage, customer information screens, upgraded security cameras and lighting, and two new platform seats.

Heritage Station Building Restored

According to Queensland Rail’s reopening announcement⁠, the terminus had been closed since November 2025.

The old station building was temporarily moved into the car park while structural work proceeded and was subsequently returned to its original location. The project restored the building to its 1914 footprint and renewed the existing awning while retaining the station’s 1940s air-raid shelter.

Work at nearby Sandgate station will continue after the reopening. Temporary train-crew facilities are scheduled for removal on August 1–2, allowing all customer parking bays to become available again from Monday, August 3.
