Line 6 Finch West to Open Late for Signalling Upgrade

A Line 6 Finch West signalling upgrade will delay the start of service in Toronto until 4 p.m. on August 3, while shuttle buses carry passengers along Finch Avenue West.

Line 6 service resumes at 4 p.m.

Regular service will end as scheduled on Sunday, August 2. According to the Metrolinx service notice⁠, trains will then remain out of service until 4 p.m. on Monday, August 3.

Replacement shuttle buses will operate along Finch Avenue West during the interruption. Passengers can check the Toronto Transit Commission website⁠ for alternative journey planning and further information about service adjustments.

Metrolinx is coordinating the closure with the TTC and providing advance notice so passengers can account for the later start when planning Monday journeys.

Upgrade requires continuous installation and testing

Crews will install and test signalling software across the entire line. The work requires an uninterrupted window that cannot be accommodated within the normal overnight maintenance period.

Completing the installation during one planned interruption is intended to avoid several separate closures. Metrolinx said the software upgrade will support the continued reliability and performance of Line 6.

The announcement does not identify the software supplier, the version being installed or any changes passengers will notice after the upgrade.

Work covers the full 10.3-kilometre corridor

The Finch West LRT project⁠ comprises 18 stops across 10.3 kilometres. It runs from Keele Street along Finch Avenue West to Highway 27 before continuing south to Humber College’s north campus.

The planned closure therefore affects the full Line 6 corridor rather than an individual stop or section. Shuttle buses will maintain an alternative service along Finch Avenue West until rail operations resume that afternoon.
