Impact of Tunnel Repairs on Seattle’s Link Light Rail Service

Sound Transit reported that rail repairs are necessary due to a cracked rail between Pioneer Square and International District stations.

This will result in the extended closure of the tunnel and track, with shuttle trains using the northbound track and platforms in both directions. Passengers can expect construction noise, including fans and heavy equipment.

Alternative Travel Options for Seattle Passengers

To minimize disruption, separate trains will operate north and south of downtown Seattle. Shuttle trains will run every 25-30 minutes between Westlake and Stadium on the northbound track. Meanwhile, trains from Lynnwood to Westlake and from Angle Lake to Stadium will run approximately every 12 minutes. Passengers traveling through downtown Seattle will need to transfer twice.

Sound Transit recommends passengers prepare for longer travel times and use alternative transportation, such as local buses, especially between Westlake and Stadium stations. King County Metro will offer a downtown circulator bus on weekdays during evening commutes to reduce congestion.

For passengers traveling from Snohomish County, alternative options include the N Line, Route 510, and 515 during weekdays. Community Transit has added additional trips to Route 515 for more flexibility.

Staff ambassadors will be stationed at various Seattle stations to assist passengers in selecting the best route. For language assistance, a translation line is available at 800-823-9230. Passengers can also sign up for service alerts to stay informed.
