Riyadh Red Line extension: stations underway at King Saud University

Riyadh Red Line extension construction has started on two new Riyadh Metro stations within King Saud University, as reported by Railway-News. The project is intended to improve links between education and healthcare facilities and key destinations in Diriyah, including cultural and tourism sites.

Riyadh Metro new stations at King Saud University
The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) is building the two King Saud University stations as part of the Red Line expansion. Also, one station will serve the University Medical City and associated health colleges.
In addition, the second will be located near the main university concourse. It will provide access for students, staff, and visitors.

Route and scope of the Riyadh Red Line extension
RCRC has previously awarded the contract for the design and construction of the extension, which will add 8.4 kilometres to the existing Red Line, according to the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC). Meanwhile, the new section will run from King Saud University to the Diriyah Gate Development Project. It will include five additional stations, as previously covered by Railway Supply.

The Red Line extension is positioned within a wider strategy to develop an integrated and sustainable public transport network in Riyadh. Separately, the work is framed as supporting projected urban growth and increased demand for mobility across the Saudi capital.
At the same time, the extension is intended to improve access to Diriyah’s key destinations.
