Real-time Tracking of Railroad Cars
09.09.2023
Amsted Rail has introduced a new application for its IQ Series telematics devices, allowing railroad car owners to track the location, load level, distance traveled, estimated arrival time, and record potential damages and other characteristics of their railcars in real-time, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.
The application also offers the capability to integrate data about the condition of wheelsets and braking systems using the Bogie IQ sensor, which was unveiled by Amsted Rail in 2022 and is installed on the undercarriage of the railcar.

IQ Series sensors operate autonomously for up to 10 years, powered by solar panels, and their software can be remotely updated.
Data processing and analysis are carried out using machine learning methods on the Supply Chain Visibility platform. Amsted Rail has entered into long-term contracts for sensor installations with the European leasing company Ermewa and the railcar manufacturing company Greenbrier Europe this year.
Previously, a similar application was launched by the Swiss company Nexxiot, another major player in the railroad car telematics market.
