Tender process for Quito Metro maintenance contracts signalling and infrastructure

Also, the award follows a process in which Quito Metro tendered two core maintenance packages — signalling and infrastructure — with a combined value of up to $US 100m. For signalling, the reference price was set at $US 28.8m. Bids were due in early February.

What Alstom will maintain on Quito Metro Line 1 signalling equipment?

Meanwhile, Alstom’s scope covers signalling equipment such as train control, interlocking, and associated lineside equipment. The system provides continuous, real-time supervision of train movements on the line, which carries 185,000 passengers a day. According to the Ecuadorian capital’s municipal authorities, the award “gives continuity to the previously existing service and guarantees permanent maintenance of the signalling system, ensuring a safe and reliable operation of the system.”

Next steps for Line 1 and a potential extension

Separately, Quito Metro is continuing efforts to conclude long-term maintenance contracts for its core systems. A separate, larger contract covering infrastructure, track, electromechanical systems and telecommunications is expected to be awarded next month.

Still, Line 1 runs from Quitumbe to El Labrador, serves 15 underground stations, and moved into its current phase of operation in late 2023 following earlier commissioning delays, as previously covered by Railway Supply. Last month, Quito Metro signed a $US 9.9m contract with Spanish engineering consultancy Typsa to conduct feasibility studies for a potential extension of Line 1 from El Labrador to La Ofelia.
