Poland Unveils Massive Rail Terminal Expansion with 3.5 Kilometers of New Track to Transform Fuel Logistics
27.05.2026
PERN rail fuel terminal near Bydgoszcz is now operating at Fuel Depot No. 2 in Nowa Wieś Wielka. By doubling the depot’s rail handling capacity, the facility strengthens fuel logistics in northern Poland.

PERN rail fuel terminal expands rail capacity
PERN, Poland’s fuel infrastructure operator, commissioned the installation to improve the way fuel deliveries are handled by rail. In PERN’s official project announcement, the company says the terminal can unload up to 36 rail tank wagons at once through 42 unloading positions, with three separate fuel connections at each station.
The project also brought around 3.5 km of new railway tracks adapted for full trainsets. PERN said the investment will reduce wagon turnaround times and allow larger volumes of fuel to be redistributed across the country, making rail a more flexible part of Poland’s national fuel distribution system.
Fuel Depot No. 2 supports national supply security
Fuel Depot No. 2 in Nowa Wieś Wielka is one of Poland’s key fuel logistics hubs. It receives imported products from locations such as the Port of Gdańsk and the Dębogórze fuel hub, then sends them onward through pipelines or rail distribution channels.
PERN says the new rail infrastructure increases operational flexibility and supports supply security. The role of rail transport becomes more important at the depot because fuel can now move through an expanded handling system.
Built for future fuel logistics
The terminal was also designed with future fuel products in mind. PERN said the infrastructure can support HVO biofuels, or hydrogenated vegetable oil, as part of its long-term strategy.
That strategy focuses on resilient and flexible fuel logistics. For the Nowa Wieś Wielka fuel depot, the result is more capacity today while keeping the site prepared for future fuel types.
