PennDOT bridge rehabilitation project alters 30th Street traffic
27.03.2026
The PennDOT bridge rehabilitation project will affect traffic near 30th Street Station. In West Philadelphia, it will last through at least June 1, 2026, according to PennDOT. Also, the $148.9 million effort is behind those traffic changes. Meanwhile, lane closures and detours will affect Market Street and 30th Street. They will last for at least the next few weeks.

PennDOT bridge rehabilitation project and traffic changes
Work begins Wednesday. As the PennDOT project page notes, the work centers on the Market Street bridges. Those bridges cross Amtrak lines, Interstate 76, the Schuylkill River Trail, and CSX Railroad lines. In addition, the work includes bridge rehabilitation, bridge replacement, and redecking near 30th Street Station.
Drivers should expect two main traffic restrictions near 30th Street Station. They will run from Wednesday, March 25, 2026, through Monday, June 1, 2026. At the same time, southbound 30th Street will close and be detoured. It will be between JFK Boulevard and Market Street. For example, westbound Market Street will be reduced to one lane. It will run between Schuylkill Avenue and 30th Street.

Access to 30th Street Station during construction
As reported by NBC10 Philadelphia, PennDOT said 30th Street will remain open. It will provide limited access to the west portico of 30th Street Station. Separately, motorists in the area will be directed to turn right onto JFK Boulevard. Still, that turn leads to Market Street near 32nd Street.
Officials warned that traffic delays are likely in the area until construction is complete. Also, PennDOT is replacing the Market Street bridges over Amtrak and I-76. In addition, it is redecking the Market Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River. Meanwhile, it is replacing the Market Street bridge on the east side of the river. That bridge crosses the Schuylkill River Trail and CSX Railroad.
