PATCO, NYSW and MBTA mark America 250 on rail vehicles

US 250th anniversary wraps have been introduced by PATCO, NYSW and MBTA through commemorative train and locomotive designs.
The designs span a PATCO two-car train, NYSW locomotive 3634 and an MBTA GP40 locomotive.
PATCO America 250 train wrap
The Port Authority Transit Corp. presented a special “America 250” wrap on a two-car train, with artwork tied to the country’s founding and to the two states served by the operator.
Each car carries a separate state theme. The Pennsylvania car includes references to Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and Benjamin Franklin, while the New Jersey car features imagery linked to Washington Crossing the Delaware, the Battleship New Jersey and Camden City Hall. Red, white and blue ribbon elements run through the design to represent the connection between the two states.
The wrapped train will operate across the PATCO network during the celebration period, including daily crossings of the Ben Franklin bridge between Philadelphia and South Jersey.
NYSW 3634 wrapped locomotive
The New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway Corp. has also debuted a specially wrapped locomotive for the anniversary. NYSW 3634 carries a design selected by NYSW employees.
The cab retains the railway’s traditional colors, with red, white and blue graphics flowing behind it. NYSW President James Bonner described the design in a post on LinkenIn.

MBTA commemorative locomotive
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has also unveiled a commemorative locomotive for the North Side Commuter lines. MBTA developed the custom paint scheme internally, using U.S.-themed elements and placing “1776” on the front to mark the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The locomotive is a GP40 unit built in the 1970s for freight service in Canada. MBTA acquired it in the late 1990s for Commuter Rail operations.
This year, the locomotive underwent an overhaul that included rebuilding and refurbishing all major components. The work also added remote monitoring and diagnostics, forward-facing and cab cameras, and updated brake and control systems.
