New Midland Station opening: METRONET wraps up in Perth
20.02.2026
Perth’s new Midland Station opening is set for this weekend. It marks the completion of the final METRONET rail project, as reported by Rail Express.

New Midland Station opening and station facilities
The new station includes a 12-stand bus interchange, a pedestrian overpass, a multi-storey car park with more than 800 bays, secure bike parking, and lifts and stairs, as outlined by METRONET. Also, the project will connect the passenger rail network to the new Bellevue Railcar Manufacturing and Maintenance Facility, which METRONET said will bring “significant new employment” to Midland.
At the same time, the new Midland Station has been built to the east of the previous station. The former site was demolished in January this year after more than 50 years of operation.
Midland Line services resume February 22
Meanwhile, regular passenger services will resume on the Midland Line from Sunday February 22. The first Perth to Midland service will depart at 9.11am and the first Midland to Perth train will leave at 9.34am, as previously covered by Railway Supply.
In addition, a community celebration will be held on February 22 to mark the opening, with free food, music, face painting and more.
METRONET projects complete across Perth
Separately, METRONET has been described as Perth’s single largest investment in public transport. It spans around 72 kilometres of railway and 23 new stations in total. The nine-year program included the Byford Rail Extension, the Armadale Line Upgrade, the construction of the Ellenbrook line and the Yanchep Rail Extension.

Still, Lauren Streifer, Chief Executive of the Public Transport Association Australia New Zealand (PTAANZ), welcomed the opening of the new station and the completion of the METRONET projects complete milestone.
“Midland is growing, and its community now has real transport choices at the new Midland station,” she said.
“Perth city centre is just 25 minutes away by train, and it is easy to walk, cycle or catch a bus here – investment that will shorten commutes, expand access to jobs, and help reduce pressure on local roads”
“We know that when city decision makers invest in public transport, it helps our cities grow more sustainably. WA has backed public transport with METRONET, and it will keep Perth moving for decades.”
